Abnormal gait can be caused by pain, toe walking (equinovarus gait), or physical deformity of the hip, knee, ankle, or feet. We work to identify the underlying factors and causes of abnormal gait and create a multi-dimensional plan of care to address this condition.
Hypotonia can be caused by a number of factors, including genetic predisposition, Down's syndrome, and cerebral palsy. We are able to address hypotonia through strengthening, orthotic intervention, and home exercises.
Torticollis is classified as muscular restriction in the neck and shoulder causing a baby to hold their head in certain positions. We address torticollis by treating muscle tightness, underlying fascial restrictions and weakness. We work with families to teach them how to position their babies as well as giving ideas for play.
We are able to assist children with cerebral palsy by addressing muscle tightness and weakness, as well as assess for equipment and orthotic needs.
Developmental delay is a general diagnosis that covers any delay in gross motor development. A physical therapist can assess a child's strength, range of motion, coordination, and movement patterns in or order to create a plan of care to assist children reach gross motor milestones.
